The Ron Day MK bowl circuit races (sponsored by Church Lane Creative). Week 11 – 31st August 2021 THE FINAL RACE
For the final race of the season tonight it was dull, overcast and almost dark at the end. We saw some great, safe racing which covered the complete circuit out of the gates from the gun.
Lots of attempted attacks to get away were brought back helped possibly by the strong headwind along the finishing straight which I here was tough. The ABCD race saw two riders clip off the front on the bell lap and hold onto a small gap before the bunch sprint behind them. The EFGHW race finished with an impressive bunch sprint.
It has been a fabulous 11 weeks, with only rain on 1 evening this year. Thank you to everyone who has supported these events by riding and helping. I have appreciated all the help and support.
It has been really great to see everyone.
A special thank you to Dick Selley for all he has done for MK bowl, the effort and support he puts in weekly is priceless. A special thank you to Mark Bicknell at Church Lane Creative for his sponsorship of the numbers allowing the prize fund to be a larger one this year. A special thank you to William Nolan, our wonderful First Aider who we know will care for anyone should he be needed, but equally glad that he has been bored most of the year. A special thank you to Sue Elsdon, Rolands wife who has turned up and helped marshal every single week of the season, what a trooper she has been and lastly a special thank you to Paul Bird who does so much to help and support me behind the scenes and on the night. I couldn’t run these event without all of these wonderful people who I am very grateful to and all the other helpers who turn out weekly.
Prize money for the season has been given out to everyone who came tonight, if you have been in the results and are due some winnings please contact me via email
Well done everyone tonight and a huge thank you to all our helpers.
Congratuations to Gavin Howell, the winner of the Ron Day memorial trophy for winning his age catagory the most across the season (closely followed by Ralph Keeler, only one race behind). Ron would be proud that these races are still running in his memory.
Goodbye MK bowl races as we know them. Thank you for many many happy years of cycle racing. The bowl will always bring happy memories to the thousands of people who have been lucky enough to use it and benefit from it on their bikes, from the Youth team to the old guys and gals on a Tuesday night. Praying we can come back in 2022.
Have a great winter everyone, stay safe on the roads. See you in May 2022 I hope.
