Ron Day Memorial – MK Bowl (4)

A dull, damp night saw an impressive 25 riders turn out. Thank you so much to all of you for supporting the event.

We ran 2 races that stayed inside the bowl tonight to keep it safer in the wet.

The EFGH race saw a break of 4 riders leave the main group after the prime lap which stayed away till the end of the race and was won by James Stewart,(who also won the prime) an impressive sprint from Tony Carter saw him win the bunch sprint for 5th overall and First G.

The ABCD was lined out from the gun by Gavin Howell who then left the bunch behind, impressively lapping the entire field on his own to then take the win. The bunch sprint was won by his team mate Bobby McGlue (who also won the prime).

Many congratulations to all our winners.

Huge thank you to Ian Cooper for being our gate marshal in the rain tonight and to all the other helpers who turn out to make it possible to run the event. We do appreciate you and your support.

BMCR Championships E,F,G,H & W

The Milton Keynes Bowl was filled with talented and enthusiastic BMCR racers today for the National Criterium Championships 60+ & Women categories. Under sunny skies, over a hundred riders across E, F, G, H & W age groups clipped into their pedals, with jerseys up for grabs.

The E race started fast, but it didn’t split until around the halfway point when 18 riders formed a lead group that pushed on and soon gained a lead of around a minute. The second group of 12 was ultimately caught but rode sensibly on the back of what was now one big group. As the final laps approached lapped riders dropped back and allowed the gallopers to charge. Paul James timed his sprint perfectly from the bottom of the hill to take the Championship. Mike Twelves 2^ndand Deano Sibthorpe 3^rd.

The F race fragmented early with a few unable to hold the pace as temperatures rose. The race remained one large group and came down to a bunch sprint. Costa Pierides took the Championship, with Rob O’Connor 2^nd and Brian Pearson 3^rd.
(Special mention to Martin Fisher too, who technically finished second in the bunch sprint but had to miss 4 laps at the start to repair a puncture so was relegated down to 20^th).

The G, H & Women (U55s & Over 55s), all started together in the midday sun when once again, the hard racing saw riders dropping off the back early. The lead group was made up of 7 or 8 riders with Helen-Taylor Carter (Mim) driving the pace on the front. With around 5 minutes to go 4 G category riders and Helen got away to duke out the sprint.
Champion woman U55 was Helen-Taylor Carter, 2^nd Alexandra Hamilton & 3^rd was Elaine Simpson.
Champion woman over 55 was Janet Birkmyre, 2^nd Linda Dewhurst and 3^rd Clare E Belle Simon.

Men’s G Champion was Andrew Donaldson, 2^nd Tony Carter & Stephen Bunn 3^rd.
Men’s H Champion was Olivier McPherson, 2^nd Don Parry & 3^rd Bill Cotton.Well done to all the riders for participating and making it a great day of racing.

FORD CC DUNTON SERIES (3)

On a wet evening 30 riders took the start with the 4 EFGH riders having a half lap lead. At the whistle for a lap to go for the first prime they were still clear but they were caught before the line where Matt Steel took the first prime. He continued his effort and was joined by Mark Cain. They were soon joined by Marco Coppola and the trio built up a 20 sec lead. They stayed clear until the second prime taken by Matt Steel at which Cain was distanced. Whilst they were never able to increase their lead they managed to stay clear until 3 laps to go when they were joined by Richard Barker. However at the bell they were all together. Despite having spent about half the race in the break Coppolo was able to jump clear with 1km to go with Duncan Rimmer which they were able to hold until the line with Murat Ozdenya taking the bunch sprint.

Overall, after 3 events, Aaron Green leads Cat A with 8 points from Lukasz Galka with 4; in Cat B Matt Holmes has 8 points with Duncan Rimmer on 4 and Matt Steel on 3; Marco Coppola leads Cat C with 8 points with Paul Spicely on 6; Cat D is very close with Keith Walker on 5, Jason Fitchew, Dave Farrow and Paul Turner on 4; in Cat E Stephen Piper leads with 10 points from Martin Meades with 6 ; and Steven Wade-Jones leads Cat F with a maximum 12 points.

Wibtoft Griterium – Leicestershire

Thanks to everyone who raced, and the helpers. As the organiser i felt it was a good initial success into this style of racing but am always looking to improve. The next event here will be a different course but of similar terrain. Come and have a go, safe freindly fun racing.
