BMCR TRACK CHAMPS 2021

We have a provisional date for the Track Champs at Newport Velodrome: Friday 29th to Sunday 30th October.

The timetable can’t be confirmed yet, as indoor velodromes are just starting to re-open, and we don’t yet know what Covid precautions will be required. We hope to be able to run all the usual individual and team championship events.

BMCR RETURN TO RACING – TEST EVENTS AND CHAMPIONSHIPS

Test Events

Before we return fully to road and circuit racing on 21 June, we plan to hold at least four ‘Test Events’ to try out and review our Covid precautions at races:

Sunday 2nd May – Velo Schils Circuit Races at Colchester – all age categories

Sunday 30th May – Sevale Road Race at Welland, Worcs  – 60+ and women only (Stallard series)

Monday 31st May – Moda Circuit Races at Darley Moor – all age categories

Sunday 13th June – Fleche Waltonne Road Race at Husbands Bosworth, Leics – ABCD only (Stallard series)

Entries will open on RiderHQ for the Velo Schils circuit races, the Sevale RR and the Moda circuit races tomorrow 14 April at 8.00 pm.

Entries will open for the Fleche Waltonne RR on 18 April at 5.00 am (the usual 8 weeks before).

National Championships

As all the 2021 Road Race Championships were due to be held between late May and early July, and rescheduling them all in a crowded late season calendar would be difficult, we have decided not to hold road race championships this year.

We hope that the other national championship events can all go ahead:

Sat 17 July – ABC Crit Champs – Bath

Sat 4 Sept (prov date) – DEFGH & Women Crit Champs – Darley Moor / Shrewsbury

Sun 5 Sept – Time Trial Champs – Napton, Warwicks

Sun 19 Sept – Hill Climb Champs – Vernham Dean, Hampshire

? October – Track Champs – Newport, S Wales

Those planning to organise other BMCR races after 21 June please contact your Regional Events Coordinator now to agree the date and get the event listed on RiderHQ.

As always, we are extremely grateful to those who promote races for BMCR.

Mike Amery

National Events Coordinator, on behalf of the BMCR National Executive

The Welland Trophy BMCR/VTTA 15 mile Time Trial will go ahead on 10 April

The Welland Trophy TT will go ahead on Saturday 10th April, on a 15 mile course at Welland in Worcestershire. This incorporates a friendly competition between BMCR and VTTA members.

Unfortunately the planned 2-up ‘Grand Prix des Gentlemen’ competition cannot take place due to CTT Covid guidance.

This is run as a CTT event, with entries through the CTT website at www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/find-events (not through RiderHQ).

The entry fee is £13 and the closing date Tues 30 March.

TOUR OF THE ABBERLEYS MOVING TO AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY

In view of the current Covid situation, with road racing unlikely to restart before late spring/early summer, the Tour of the Abberleys BMCR 3-day Stage Race, which usually takes place on the first bank holiday weekend in May, will this year be moved to the August bank holiday weekend, Saturday 28th to Monday 30th August.

The tough 4-stage race takes place in hilly NW Worcestershire, and we’ll be returning to the familiar and well-loved (by some) courses of recent years. Entries will open on RiderHQ on 3 July at

TRACK OMNIUM CHAMPS AND CYCLO-CROSS CHAMPS CANCELLED/POSTPONED

Regrettably we will not be able to hold the Track Omnium Champs in February, due to Covid restrictions in Wales, at Newport Velodrome, and also those in England preventing many members from travelling. If possible we will re-schedule it later in the year, but if road and circuit racing resumes in late spring/summer we are likely to have a busy BMCR race programme for the rest of the season.

We have also agreed that the Cyclo-Cross Champs cannot unfortunately take place this winter. There is a possibility of re-scheduling to spring 2021.
