FORD CC DUNTON SERIES (5)

The weather gods saved the best weather for the last event of the season! Bright sunshine but with a strong westerly wind. The sunshine and wind also produced the most attacking race of the series. 32 riders took the start line with the 8 EFGH riders having a half lap lead. It looked like the older group would take the first prime but they were caught on the line with Paul Spicely taking the prize. Within a lap a strong group comprising Spicely, Craig Nicholls, Ross Courtnell, Matt Holmes, and Paul Miller had moved clear of the bunch. Courtnell unfortunately punctured but rejoined after taking 2 laps out to change a tube. At the second prime taken by Matt Holmes the bunch was beginning to split up with Matt Steel, Mark Cain, Murat Ozdenya, David Farrow, Aaron Green and Paul Davies moving clear. However they made little impression on the leading group. With 3 laps to go the leaders were starting to break up with Nicholls and Holmes attempting to stay clear but they were all together at the bell as the leaders lapped the bunch. On the line Nicholls took the win from Courtnell and Holmes. The chasing group was led home by Matt Steel and the bunch by Marco Coppola. Although Courtnell was originally given 2nd after further deliberations the judges agreed that he be relegated to last of the leading group due to him taking laps out due to a mechanical.

Overall, provisionally, in Cat A Aaron Green wins with 8 points from Lukasz Galka and Craig Nicholls both on 4; in Cat B Matt Holmes wins with 14 points from Ross Courtnell on 8, Matt Steel on 5 and Duncan Rimmer on 4; Paul Spicely takes Cat C with 10 points from Marco Coppolo and Murat Ozdenya both on 8 points; in Cat D Keith Walker wins with 11 points from David Farrow on 10 and Jason Fitchew, and Paul Turner on 4; in Cat E  Stephen Piper wins with 18 points from Martin Meades with 8 and Duncan Thomas with 4; Steven Wade-Jones wins Cat F with a maximum 20 points from Trevor Gannon with 8 points and Reg Smith with Cat H with 4 points. The full overall result will be published once double-checked.

Ron Day Memorial – MK Bowl (7)

The Ron Day Memorial MK Bowl races – Race 7 -25th June 2024 (Sponsored by Church Lane Creative).

Another lovely sunny evening for bike racing. Thank you to everyone who comes out to ride and support this event tonight.

A stressful one for us organisers tonight with no access to the East car park and no key holders on site. Huge huge thanks to the marshals tonight who pulled it out the bag and enabled us to run the race out of the bottom gates from the gun. Massive thanks to Paul Bird who set up the race, co-ordinated the marshals and then just made it back in time to race himself, no warm up and he didn’t even have a number on his back!

The ABCD race saw a split in the field with 4 riders moving clear around lap 6. 2 laps later 3 more riders had moved across. CC Luton riders Darren Farr and Michael DArcy then broke away and stayed away till the end with Darren taking the win. The bunch sprint was won by Andrew Lowe.

The EFGH race stayed together most of the time until 2 laps to go when it split apart and then mainly came back together for the sprint which was won by Paul Stewart from an impressive Mim Taylor who was on fire tonight, winning the race prime too.

Again massive thank you to all the helpers and huge congratulations to all our winners.

Ron Day Memorial – MK Bowl (6)

The Ron Day Memorial MK Bowl races – Race 6 – 18th June 2024 (Sponsored by Church Lane Creative).

A perfect sunny warm evening for racing. We started and finished from the green tonight, doing the complete lap from the gun. My favourite course as I get to see more of the race.

It was a great night for CC Luton in the ABCD race which saw an attack by Darren Farr who stormed away gaining on the bunch of over a minute to take an impressive win. The bunch sprint being won by Michael DArcy to take 1st C from Andrew Lowe (Corley Cycles) who was 3rd overall taking 1st D.

The EFGH bunch was a small group tonight, they mostly stayed together with the bunch sprint being won by Martin Fisher from Steve Dunton. The G’s were the biggest catagory to race tonight with the win for them being taken by Tony Carter ahead of Malcolm Freeman.

Congratulations to all our winners and a huge thank you to all our marshals and helpers, especially those who have helped a lot and those who came to help at the last minute tonight. I really appreciate you all. These races could not take place without you.

I am in need of 2 more helpers for next weeks race please and then 6 helpers every week until the end of the series. If you have not helped yet, please can you pop your name down. Thank you so much.

The Ron Day Memorial MK Bowl races – Race 5 – 11th June 2024 (Sponsored by Church Lane Creative).

A DRY race tonight- YAY – and just enough helpers to run the race outside the gates after 30 mins. Thank you so much to all the helpers tonight that made this happen 🥰🥰

The ABCD race didn’t miss the Gavin Howell train tonight. A strong break of 3 riders stayed away with Michael DArcy taking a great win with a strong sprint from Lewis King and Krzysztof Zakręta with the following bunch sprint being won by Mark Calvert.

The EFG also saw a strong 2 man break staying away with Barry Bonnett taking the win from John Lacey followed by the bunch sprint being won by Ralph Keeler.

A great night of safe racing, thank you to everyone who came out to support and congratulations to our winners.

I am short of marshal helpers for next week and beyond. Please can you volunteer one evening if you have not done so already. Thank you x
