The Welland Trophy BMCR/VTTA 15 mile Time Trial will go ahead on 10 April

The Welland Trophy TT will go ahead on Saturday 10th April, on a 15 mile course at Welland in Worcestershire. This incorporates a friendly competition between BMCR and VTTA members.

Unfortunately the planned 2-up ‘Grand Prix des Gentlemen’ competition cannot take place due to CTT Covid guidance.

This is run as a CTT event, with entries through the CTT website at www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/find-events (not through RiderHQ).

The entry fee is £13 and the closing date Tues 30 March.

TOUR OF THE ABBERLEYS MOVING TO AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY

In view of the current Covid situation, with road racing unlikely to restart before late spring/early summer, the Tour of the Abberleys BMCR 3-day Stage Race, which usually takes place on the first bank holiday weekend in May, will this year be moved to the August bank holiday weekend, Saturday 28th to Monday 30th August.

The tough 4-stage race takes place in hilly NW Worcestershire, and we’ll be returning to the familiar and well-loved (by some) courses of recent years. Entries will open on RiderHQ on 3 July at

TRACK OMNIUM CHAMPS AND CYCLO-CROSS CHAMPS CANCELLED/POSTPONED

Regrettably we will not be able to hold the Track Omnium Champs in February, due to Covid restrictions in Wales, at Newport Velodrome, and also those in England preventing many members from travelling. If possible we will re-schedule it later in the year, but if road and circuit racing resumes in late spring/summer we are likely to have a busy BMCR race programme for the rest of the season.

We have also agreed that the Cyclo-Cross Champs cannot unfortunately take place this winter. There is a possibility of re-scheduling to spring 2021.

Membership

Dear Member

We sincerely hope you are all safe and healthy and have managed to get some socially distanced miles in this year!

We wanted to provide an update on our plans for a reduction to the membership fee for next year.

Earlier this year and as a direct result of the lack of racing, our insurers passed on some savings via a reduction to our insurance premium.

Nevertheless, this did still include the fantastic third party cover that we all also benefit from and would have provided cover for any events that we would have been allowed to organise.

Clearly the pandemic is not over however over the last few weeks there has been much more positive news and the prospect of a return to normal seems more insight than at any other point this year.

With this in mind we have already secured a full calendar of National championships for 2021 (https://bmcr.org.uk/calendar/) and we would encourage organisers to make provisional plans for their events next year, in the hope that we can resume all types of racing at some point.

To pass on these savings to you, for next year we will be reducing the membership fee from £26 to £14 per annum.

Those of you who have already re-joined for 2021 will receive a refund of £12 and will be contacted individually.

RiderHQ will start to send notifications for the rest of you from December onwards.

Finally, you will have seen some fantastically creative lockdown challenges and of course the odd zwift event being organised and for the start of next season we are making provisional plans for a series of sporting team time trials if we can’t resume bunch races straight away.

Best, Nigel Byrne
