The Ron Day Memorial MK Bowl races – Race 3 – 16th May 2023 (Sponsored by Church Lane Creative).

A sunny dry night and plenty of helpers meant we could run the race out of the top gates from the start, starting and finishing on the green (my favourite course 😍).

Thank you so much to all the helpers tonight, I really appreciate you all.

Some fast racing tonight with the Gavin Howell train soon splitting to just Gavin and Simon Moss, holding a 2 man break for the majority of the race with Gavin riding away from Simon at the end to take the win. A later attack saw Bobby McGlue and Kieron Lewis leaving the main bunch finishing 3rd and 4th with Bobby taking the sprint. Michael Darcy attacked on the last lap to finish just ahead of the bunch, followed by Sean Dines with Paul Bird winning the bunch sprint.

The EFGH race was split into two bunches part way through with Mim Taylor riding really strong in the front group taking 1st lady, the bunch sprint was won by James Stewart, followed by Steve James who has brilliant form in his first year as an E cat.

A great nights racing, well done to all our winners and everyone who rode.

I need helpers every week. Please let me know if you are able to help or can bring a helper with you if you want to race (over 16 yrs). Thank you.

Despite the fear of rain, it was a pretty decent turnout . I think we had just under 40 riders on the start line.

As promised, Tony Meader put a DEFG group a minute ahead of the ABC group

This certainly made things a lot more interesting; in fact, the two groups didn’t come together till almost the halfway point of the race

Once they were altogether, from the sidelines, it looked like Richard Baker and Antony Wallis were the ones most keen to force a separation.

But nothing of significance really took place until the last few laps of the race. Richard got a gap of roughly 15 seconds at one point and held on for a few laps until he was sadly closed down with three to go.

At this point unfortunately on the hairpin around the back of the circuit, there was a crash. Both Carlito Rendora and Paul Bird came down heavily.

Upfront the four strongest riders left in the race pull themselves clear from the bunch and went on to contest the win.

The super in form Matt Holmes took “the W” and Antony Wallis was 2nd; Matt Steel and an unlucky Richard Barker, grabbed 3rd and 4th spot.

Tomasz Chmielewski took the much depleted bunch sprint

Big shout out to Tony for putting on the event with minimal help. And most importantly super thanks to the amazing Debbie 👍 for taking care of both riders until the ambulance arrived. We wish both Paul and Carlito a swift recovery 🙏

A dissappointing number of entries and only 1 helper tonight, but we were so lucky that the race was dry after a huge thunderstorm and biblical rain only a couple of hours before.

A small ABCD race quickly became a Gavin Howell train for many laps, the group worked hard but Gavin left them, powering away to catch them for a lap up on their last lap, winning on the bunch bell lap in the group but went round again (for fun) to win again (organisers headache 🤣 bell? or flag?).

The EFGHW event had a few attacks from Steve James only to be brought back, finishing with a bunch sprint that Steve won.

Congratulations to our winners and thank you to everyone who came out to ride and support tonight. Thank you to our helper Michael Darcy who gave up his own race to help tonight.

Without HELPERS these races cannot be run, next week we have none and then 1 for the 2 weeks afterwards. I need 6 people to run the race out of the gates please and at least 1 other helper every week to man the gates as I can’t be at the start, finish and gates.

If you want to race you can bring a helper with you (over 16). Please volunteer so that the series can continue.
